Before you can make a road test appointment, you must first complete an approved pre-licensing safe driving course available at Golden Crown Driving School. All drivers must complete this requirement by taking a special five-hour course available at our driving school. After you take the course, you will receive a certificate to present when you make your road test appointment. The certificate is valid for one year.

Note: A defensive driving course taught through the DMV-certified Point/Insurance Reduction Program does NOT qualify as the required classroom 5 hour pre licensing course.

The Road Test

1.You can make your road test appointment on-line at www.dmv.ny.gov (click on On-Line Services, then Schedule a Road Test) or by phone at (518-402-2100) (or 1-800-368-1168 for the hearing impaired). Our driving school also provides services to make the appointment and take students to the Road Test. When making your appointment, you must have your client ID number (9-digit number directly over your photo on your permit) and the certificate number that is printed on the 5 Hour Course Completion Certificate (MV-278).

When you arrive for your road test, you must bring the 5 Hour Pre-licensing Course Completion Certificate (MV-278) and your learner permit. If you have a junior learner permit, you must also bring a completed Certification of 50 Hours of Supervised Driving (MV-262) http://www.dmv.ny.gov/forms/mv262.pdf signed by a parent or guardian. This does not apply to applicants 17 years old who have completed a Certified Driver Education Course and present a valid Student Certificate of Completion (MV-285) at the road test. If you do not have the required items, you will NOT be given a road test.
